BUDAPEST'S BEAUTIFUL BUILDINGS

We were treated with real kindness and hospitality by Mike. We were given a tour of Budapest and taken to see Esztergom and Visegrad.Mike told John where to buy running shoes, helped me find a haircut and took us to the Grand Astoria for a super meal.
He has a lovely 1930 flat in Pest and is an admirer of Pest's lovely architecture. The weather was gloomy so my photos aren't great but give a small flavour of the city. Also here is the huge synagogue and the memorial tree to those who were murdered by the Nazis.
Long ago an Hungarian Jew came to share Passover with my family in Lusaka, Zambia. He told us that Hungary, though allied with the Axis, did protect its Jewish population until the Nazis took over in 1944 and some people did survive.
We also visited the Terror House which tells a similar story of Occupation to the Baltic states.
