Winter is inevitable and so we went in search of firewood.
There is lots of wood from the tempest but it is still green.
We also had discovered that we could put our name down for Labatut wood which is shared out among villagers.
This are photos of our first delivery which John had to move and stack. He did so in record time. We have 10 square metres and have yet to discover how long it will last.
Apparently burning firewood is carbon neutral - as the same amount of carbon is released by rotting wood as by burning wood. I guess there are issues about the cutting and transport of it but we believe our wood to be pretty local - especially the village load.

FOOTNOTE - BACK TO THE SUN

This feet photo was made in Slovenia as autumn approached with its storms and snow and we headed south for sun and warmth.
There is always some sadness about the declining year and it felt good to defer winter. I said at the end of our Korcula blog that rain was needed and a blessing! Well we have been blessed and soaked and it has been colder than the average mean temperaturre for this reason. When we left Croatia for Bosnia the rain began and stayed with us pretty much till we got to Varna. As we left Brasov there was snow on the Bucegi Mountains. Today there are no naturists. It is raining again. Life in the wheely cabin is limited if the weather is lousy - it is dark inside as the thermal silver screen has to be left up for privacy and warmth. Will we survive the winter I wonder. I have been hit with a cold and no flu jabs are on offer in Bulgaria!

BEER DRINKING TO BRING THE COWS DOWN THE MOUNTAIN
FOR THE CAFÉ SOCIETY OF CRANFIELD BRINGING THE COWS DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN On our last afternoon in Slovenia we had about 3 inches of rain in 3 hours. The river came up a metre in that time and was still rising as we left next day, in our soggy, muddy wheely house. The Triglav Mountains were white with the first autumn snows. On our last evening the village was rehearsing for the annual party when the cows come down from the mountains for the winter and John and I went dancing. Here are some appropriate dances for anyone who has enjoyed drinking beer with us. Click on the arrow and music will sound.
